|I met Mark Peter Wright, aka Hands of Sand, via a user-generated website that for once didn't usurp his appelation of "space". Indeed, as his contributions to the Sense-of-Place community shows, places and sites occupy an important place in Mark's work. Hands Of Sand's music immediatly struck me by its concrète quality, working mostly with field recordings and objects, and evocating precise places. A quality that i was, of course, looking for when in hunt for contributors to the Odomez Serie.
|Here is what Hands Of Sand writes about his recording process : "When the package arrived its contents seemed so dry, coughed up from a choked earth, staved of water, starved of life. This thirst and need for renewal became the central compositional focus – an overall cycle of water to stone, a journey from liquid to
solid."

|I asked Mark to choose something from Odomez he'd like me to send him as an inspiration : words, images, sounds... he evocated single words and maybe artifacts - that immediatly put two things in my mind.
|First, artifacts - that was really not a problem. Odomez is filled up with all the artifacts of the creation and along our visits, we collected a good amount of stuff there. I made a selection, got everything into a package that i sent out to Mark, as an inspiration, as a gift and as a souvenir. Here's images from the making of this package : Here.
|Eventually included were : two stalagtites, a spring caught in dirt, an industrial plastic tube, a piece of electric montage, dried tree leaves, a stingy metallic ring, a box of sardines, a torn spoon, a piece of concrete wall with rust.
|Then, images... my serie of Temporary photographies document actions made in the very heart of Odomez. They will be printed as postcards ; on the back, i will inscribe texts written after my passages there. That way, Hands of Sand's release will constitue a sonic postcard of Odomez, flying out, cut in pieces, to the whole world.
|Also included are the extended liner-notes written by Mark Peter Wright about his recording process for that release.
